Love Enterprises and Associates, Inc. is a
golf course design company with a firm commitment to preserving the land in its natural
state by designing a course that will compliment the existing terrain. The company was
formed in 1994 and has a design team filled with experience to create courses that blend
naturally with the land.
Davis Love III brings celebrity stature
and golf expertise to the team. As one of the PGA Tours most successful players, he
has won twenty-five tournaments during his career including The Players Championship and
the 1997 PGA Championship. Having played great golf courses all over the world,
Davis has been exposed to every type of golf course architecture. He has been a serious
student of the game all his life and has definite ideas about what makes a golf course
great.
Mark Love, Davis brother, serves as President of Love Enterprises
and brings golf knowledge as well as business acumen to the company. Having been exposed
to the game of golf at an early age by his father, Davis Love, Jr., Mark learned the game
well. He has been a golf instructor with the Golf Digest Learning Center and has caddied
for Davis during most of his career. He played golf for Valdosta State College, where he
earned a degree in communications. Mark managed a golf shaft distribution company prior to
dedicating himself to the golf course design business.
Bob Spence, formerly with Kemper Sports Management, brings more than 35
years experience in the design, construction and management of golf courses. He serves as
the Vice President of Love Enterprises and is considered to be one of the true experts in
golf course design and construction.
Paul Cowley has more than 25 years experience in resort design, land
planning, design and construction.
Scot Drader is the newest member of the Love Enterprises design team and
serves as a construction supervisor. Scot came to the company after spending nine years as
a golf course superintendent and is a current member of the Golf Course Superintendents
Association of America.
Love Enterprises, as with past course designers, envisions a course by
walking the land. The design team works hard to make the golf course fit the land
not
make the land fit the golf course. Love Enterprises maintains the age-old tradition of
sculpting a golf course to work in harmony with the land, not against it.
Beyond the design team, Love Enterprises also has experience and
professionalism in its support staff. The office, which is based on St. Simons Island,
Ga., is managed by Pat Shelnutt. Pat brings nearly 30 years of experience in banking and
accounting and is responsible for the financial management of the company. Pat serves as
Treasurer of Love Enterprises, an office she has held since the company was founded. John
McKenzie is the Marketing Director and is primarily responsible for finding new projects
for the company. Once a job is started, John serves as the coordinator between the owner
and Love Enterprises and is responsible for all promotions involving Davis and/or Love
Enterprises. John brings a wealth of golf business experience to the company having worked
as a golf professional for eight years. Victor Galan works as the CAD operator and works
directly with Paul Cowley in producing all computer renderings and construction plans.
Having CAD capability ensures an easy and usually quick transfer of information between
Love Enterprises and the owners land planner and engineer.
Davis and Marks business goal with Love Enterprises has been
simple- to design and build high quality, enjoyable golf courses that fit with the
individual needs of each owner/developer, and to do so in the most economical manner
possible, so that every project is given the greatest opportunity to succeed. To date,
we feel we have been able to accomplish this with each of the seven golf courses we have
completed. We have designed various types of facilities: affordable public, affordable
resort, upscale public and upscale resort. We currently have two projects under
construction, a new 18-hole daily-fee course for Bluegreen Golf located near Raleigh, N.C.
and a complete 18-hole renovation of an upscale resort/private course for the Sea Island
Company here on St. Simons Island, Ga.
DAVIS LOVE III
A North Carolina native, Love began playing golf as soon as he could walk. Loves
golfing ability comes naturally as he is the son of the late Davis Love, Jr., a great
player in his own right and regarded as one of the premiere teachers in golf. Davis Love,
IIIs book, Every Shot I Take, chronicles his first lessons of golf with his
father who not only was a mentor to Davis but, more importantly, his best friend. Davis turned professional in 1988 after graduating from the University
of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Davis continues to carry on the family golf tradition by
establishing himself as one of the most renowned players in the world. With his long awaited first Major victory at the 1997 PGA Championship,
at historic Winged Foot Golf Club, Davis claimed what was rightfully his as he captured
the hearts of his fans in one of the most emotional final rounds of a Major in golf
history. In 1999, Davis continues his excellent career finishing second at this
years Masters Tournament, and he is currently ranked sixth on the PGA Tour Money
List. Davis has always kept his family close to his golfing career. His
brother Mark has been on the bag as caddie for most of his tournament victories. The two
of them have carried this successful relationship into a thriving new golf-course design
business. Davis and Mark entered the golf course design business in 1995, when
they formed Love Enterprises and Associates, Inc. Their company has since been responsible
for the design and project management of four golf facilities. The first one was Ocean
Creek on Fripp Island, South Carolina, which was named Top Ten You Can Play by
Golf Magazine in 1996. Currently, two more Davis Love, III signature courses are under
construction with a limited number of projects in the development phase. When Davis is not playing golf, he enjoys spending time with his wife
Robin and his two children Alexia and Davis IV.
